Christiane Amanpour

Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and Journalist Safety, UNESCO (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

Christiane Amanpour is host of AMANPOUR and Chief International Correspondent for CNN. She was designated as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and Journalist Safety in April 2015 in recognition of her commitment to promote free, independent and pluralistic media, and having the right to work free from the threat of violence. Her illustrious career in journalism spans three decades. Her international reporting began in 1990, as a correspondent for CNN, where she reported on the international crisis in the Gulf War, followed by reporting in conflict situations in regions across the world.  She has interviewed most of the top world leaders over the past two decades and has received every major broadcast award. In addition to her work as an anchor and reporter, Ms Amanpour is an active rights campaigner. A board member of the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Centre for Public Integrity and the International Women’s Media Foundation, she has used her profile to raise awareness of key global issues.
