Ammu Joseph

Journalist and media specialist (India)

Ammu Joseph is an independent journalist and author based in Bangalore, writing primarily on issues relating to gender, human development and the media. She contributes to a number of mainstream publications and web-based media. Ms Joseph was among the principal drafters of  UNESCO’s Gender Sensitive Indicators for Media (2012); she contributed to the IFJ-Asia Pacific report, Inside the News:  Challenges and Aspirations of Women Journalists in Asia and the Pacific (2015); she was a member of  the international teams contributing to the UNESCO report on World Trends in the State of Freedom of Expression and Media Development (2013) and UNESCO’s Global Monitoring Report on the implementation of the 2005 Convention on Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2015). Ms Joseph also served as Coordinator - India for the Global Media Monitoring Project (2010 and 2015) and Coordinator - South Asia for the Global Report on Women in the News Media (2011). She has been on the visiting faculty of several institutes of journalism education in India.  Ms Joseph is also a founding member of the Network of Women in Media, India, and Media Watch Bengaluru.
