Terrorism and the Media
In the context of terrorism and violent extremism, the media are crucial in their diffusion of verifiable information and informed opinions. Though these types of violence are not new, there continues to be a broad range of questions concerning the media coverage of these events and movements, as well as the best approaches to approaching their underlying causes.
UNESCO is committed to preventing violent extremism in all forms through its mandate, including its work in media. By encouraging appropriate guidelines for media coverage, empowering youth and promoting understanding, the Organization is helping to ensure the delivery of reliable information and knowledge to the people who need it most.
