Conversations on the Silk Road: The World Without War

The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the Republican State Institution “Kogamdyk Kelisim”, in partnership with the Kazakhstan National Commission for UNESCO and “The State Museum of "The Center for the Rapprochement of Cultures” are hosting the 11th annual “Conversations on the Silk Road: The World Without War” seminar on September 21st -23rd 2017 in Almaty. The objective of this year’s conference is to encourage the reduction of conflicts by creating a path for restoration of spiritual contacts among those countries that have a voice in the geopolitical landscape and influence the issues the world faces today. In addition, it aspires to encourage discussions to propose approachable methods towards better outcomes, while considering the peaceful dialogue that was leveraged during the times of the Silk Roads.

Participants to the seminar range from political scientists, philosophers and more, and are coming from countries along the Silk Roads, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Russia. This year’s conference will also celebrate the ten-year history of the project “Conversations on the Silk Road” and will, on this occasion, feature a screening of a documentary and have an exhibition curated by the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The choice of Almaty for location lies in its central role in the land routes of the Silk Roads. Thanks to its network and settlers, it became a central trade, craft, and agricultural center.
