Seminar on Common Culture and History in ECO Region

ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) held a one-day seminar on Common Culture and History in ECO Region on 31 May 2016 in collaboration with Center for International Research and Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Authorities of the ECO member states, professors and scholars of culture and politics in ECO region participated in the event.

The event covered themes such as potentials in common culture and history of ECO region, regional cultural identity and globalization, common heritage, role of ECO countries along the Silk Roads, existing cultural opportunities and challenges in ECO region, potentials and opportunities for cooperation in ECO region, common culture of the region, solutions for extremism and violence and bonds that links cultures in ECO region.

Lecturers from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan, participated in the seminar. The main topics discussed in the meeting were as follows: strengthening the cultural relations of countries in the region; the demand for forming cultural groups; identifying common circles in history; heritages and cultures in Eco region; attempt for maintaining historical heritage and shared cultural characteristics; re-identifying and introducing cultural common characteristics and condemning extremism and violence.

Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is an intergovernmental regional organization of 10 member states: Islamic Republic of Iran, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan, Turkey.
