Before leaving:

  • Identity card or passport
  • Visa received for your stay in Switzerland (if applicable. If you have not started the procedure yet, please contact us as soon as possible.)
  • Nominative invitation letter sent by UNESCO
  • Hotel booking confirmation

Arriving in Geneva:

Arriving by plane

A UNESCO welcome desk will be at your disposal at the Geneva Airport on 4 July 2017, from 8 am to 8 pm. It will be located at:

Airport visitors center – Arrival hall, Welcome desk n°15 A/B

Two UNESCO representatives will be available at the Welcome desk to:

  • Welcome you to Geneva
  • Give you useful information on Geneva and on the airport shuttles that will take you to your hotel
  • Finalize your registration and provide you with a nominative badge for the conference

Airport shuttles are available on 4 July 2017, every hour from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm , to take you to your hotel.

If you arrive after 8 pm , please note that public transport tickets available for free at the ticket machine located at the luggage retrieval hall.

Arriving by train

From the train station to the Hotel Ibis or Ibis Budget Petit-Lancy:
From the main station (‘Genève Cornavin’), take tramway n° 14 (direction ‘Bernex’) and stop at ‘Les Essert’.

From the train station to the Hotel Ibis Budget Aéroport:
From the main station (‘Genève Cornavin’), take tramway n° 10 (direction ‘Genève Aéroport’) and stop at ‘Vernier, Pailly-Balexert’.

NB. If you arrive by train, please make sure to register for the conference on 5 July 2017 at the University of Geneva (UniMail) from 8.30 am to 9.30 am.

A welcome buffet for participants is organized on 4 July 2017, from 7 pm to 9 pm, at the University of Geneva (UniMail) .

It will be an occasion to meet other participants and to officially open the posters gallery.

Shuttles are provided from both hotels to accompany participants to the welcome buffet .

From the Hotel Ibis or Ibis Budget Petit-Lancy: departures at 6.30 pm and 7.00 pm

All participants are kindly asked to be ready in front of their hotel at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time, to allow departures on time.

Please note that, if you miss the shuttle, you can still join the welcome buffet by public transport. Please see below for more information on public transport in Geneva.

Registration

All participants must be registered, nominative badges are required in order to access the conference.

Meals and transportation

Participants' meals and transportation to the sessions and side events are covered from the evening of 4 July to the close on 7 July 2017.

Breakfast

Breakfasts are included in the accommodation and will be served everyday at the hotels.

Lunch

Lunches will be provided everyday at the University of Geneva:

On 5 July 2017, at the University of Geneva's cafeteria
On 6-7 July 2017, Brown Bag Lunches will be distributed to all participants.

Dinner

All dinners from 4 to 6 July will be provided:

Cocktail reception at CERN , on 5 July 2017, from 7.40 pm to 10 pm

Shuttles from Geneva Airport to the Hotels

Shuttles are provided every hour from the Geneva airport to the hotels on 4 July 2017, from 9.00 am to 8.00 pm .

All participants who arrive in Geneva after 8 pm, or who do not wish to wait for the conference’s shuttles, can get a 80-minute free ticket for Geneva Public Transport . The ticket machine for free tickets is located at the luggage retrieval hall .

Daily Shuttles during the Conference

Shuttles are provided for all internal transportations during the days of the conference, both in the morning and in the evening (hotel-conference-hotel + visits).

Your “Welcome to Geneva” document lists the exact schedule of your shuttle. Please check it.

Visit to CERN and Side-Event at Biotech Campus

Buses are provided for the visit to CERN (on 5 July 2017) and the side-event at Biotech Campus (6 July 2017).

Please note that you will be attributed to a specific bus (Bus A: Blue; Bus B: Green; Bus C: Red).

Please also note that, concerning the visit to CERN, the are no extra seats available on the buses. In this context, it is essential that you respect the bus that you have been attributed to (alphabetical order criteria).

7 July 2017 (after the conference)

The conference ends on 7 July 2017 at around 12 pm. A shuttle will leave from the University of Geneva to the airport at 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm in order to accompany participants, if needed, to the airport.

Costs covered by the project

We kindly remind that the following costs are covered by the project from the evening of 4 July 2017 to noon of 7 July 2017:

First representatives of Chairs:

  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Internal transportations in Geneva

Second / third representatives of Chairs:

  • Meals
  • Internal transportations in Geneva

NB. Hotel bookings have been made for second / third representatives having asked for them at the Hotel Ibis Budget Aéroport. Second / third representatives will be able to pay these costs directly to the hotel once in Geneva.

Family members: No costs covered. Participation of family members in the conference is not possible for logistical and capacity reasons.

Please note that all supplementary nights or costs cannot be covered by the project.

 

Public transport in Geneva

For all participants wishing to visit Geneva or to move around through public transports, Geneva Public Transport Network, called UNIRESO, has a wide network of public transports, including trams, buses and trains .

Your hotel will provide you with free tramway and bus tickets .

You can also get a 80-minute free ticket for Geneva Public Transport at the luggage retrieval hall of the airport .

The distances in Geneva by public transport are relatively short.

Weather

Daytime temperatures in Geneva for July may vary between 15 and 30°C.

The University of Geneva provides free WiFi internet access. For more information, please check your “Welcome to Geneva” e-mail.
