Methodology
A methodological approach and tools to support policy-makers worldwide in setting up, implementing and monitoring gender equality in STI policies were developed and were published in five working papers as part of the SAGA Measuring Gender Equality in Science and Engineering Working Paper series. These papers are:
- Working Paper 1: SAGA Science, Technology and Innovation Gender Objectives List
The Science, Technology and Innovation Gender Objectives List (STI GOL) is a tool for classifying STI policies and indicators, developed in the framework of SAGA. The STI GOL enables the categorization of policies and policy instruments, and assists in analysis aimed at preparing regional or country profiles. At the same time, it allows for identifying gaps in the STI policy mix, thereby supporting policy-makers worldwide in setting up, implementing, monitoring and evaluating gender equality policies in STI.The working paper should be acknowledged using the following citation:

The SAGA Toolkit is designed primarily for policy-makers and statistical entities in governments. It provides practical tools to monitor and evaluate gender equality and to integrate gender aspects in STI policies, which often relies primarily on anecdotal evidence, as sex-disaggregated information is not always available. The working paper should be acknowledged using the following citation:

The SAGA Survey of Gender Equality in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policies (SAGA STI Policy Survey) provides the guidelines to implement the SAGA STI Policy survey and presents a core model questionnaire with instructions on how to complete it. It is envisioned that the survey will be used and adapted to different regions, countries and by various users. It aims to set standards for the collection of information on gender equality and policies and instruments in national STI systems and provides instructions for users of the SAGA STI Policy Survey. This working paper should be acknowledged using the following citation:

The SAGA Survey of Drivers and Barriers to Careers in Science and Engineering provides the guidelines to implement the survey instrument in various contexts. The main objective of the survey is to collect information from individuals to identify the most important drivers and barriers which might have been encountered in school, during their transition to the workforce upon completion of their education training, and in their day-to-day work environment in science and engineering. This working paper should be acknowledged using the following citation:

The Telling SAGA: improving measurement and policies for gender equality in STI is a part of UNESCO’s efforts to promote gender equality in science. It illustrates the current situation of women in science ay the global scale, what UNESCO has done and is doing to bridge the existing gaps in gender equality in science and the benefits of reducing such gaps and how this can be accomplished through the SAGA methodology and tools. It also provides examples of good practices aimed at reducing the gender gap in science collected during the implementation of the project. This working paper should be acknowledged using the following citation:
