On 14th November 2013, 15 radio Sauti journalists (8 men and 7 women) were trained in Asembo Bay, Siaya county, Kenya. The workshop enhanced their capacities on editorial, programming and monitoring matters, including radio formats and gender focus.

Date: 12/11 Workshop on programme production and Internet use to cover three areas of local concern in Zambia Image: Introduction:

From 12th to 15th December 2013, UNESCO organizaed a workshop for radio station's staff in Zambia to increase their capacities in producing interactive programmes on three community issues: agriculture, health and social governance. Nine participants from all five radio staions within the country were trained by Mr. Martin Mwape.

Date: 04/11 Radio training on Editorial, Programming, Monitoring and Media Ethics in Radio broadcasting in Lesotho Image: Introduction:

UNESCO Windhoek cluster office organized and carried out a 3 day training workshop at Mafeteng Community Radio station, from 4th to 6th November 2013. This training aimed at providing training on editorial, programming, monitoring, gender focus and introduction to ICTs to 10 participants (4 women and 6 men). Although there were more males than females participants to the workshop, special attention was made to ensure that there was a gender balance. The training was carried out by Mr. Pheko Mathibeli.

Date: 01/11 Correspondents network and ICTs for programming, editorial and diffusion at Jozi FM, South Africa Image: Introduction:

The training was conducted at Jozi FM from 28th October to 1st November 2013 by Jacob Ntshangase and Kanyi Mkonza. Seven participants in total, ranging from interns, news reporters as well as a senior programme producer in the station, participated in the training. The group was well balanced with two males and five females.

Date: 23/09 Correspondents' network and ICTs for programming, editorial work and diffusion at Base FM and !aH Radio, Namibia Image: Introduction:

A training for !aH and Base FM took place between 23 and 27 September 2013 in Katutura at the Base FM Studio. A total of 12 correspondents,  6 trainees from each radio station, attended this training in an effort to share good practices and provide hands-on training as well as participation in all activities. The trainers were Mr. Julius Mtemahandji and Mr. Jens Schneider.

Date: 09/09 Workshop to raise capacities to produce programmes in three areas of concern in Pangani, Tanzania Image: Introduction:

On 8 September 2013, UNESCO staff and trainers from Dar es Salaam travelled to Pangani, Tanga for a workshop to raise capacities of correspondents from five local radios in the United Republic of Tanzania to produce programmes on four selected areas of concern (agriculture, health education, and good governance).

Date: 23/08 Workshop on correspondents' reporting at Valley FM, South Africa Image: Introduction:

The workshop took place during 4 days (23, 24 and 31 August and 1 September 2013), equipping 10 radio correspondents (4 men and 6 women) with the ability to use ICT in their broadcasting. The trainer was Mr. Al-Ameen Kafaar, an experienced journalist and communication specialist, and training was held at Valley FM’s premises, in Worcester, Western Cape.

Date: 19/08 Workshop to raise capacities to produce programmes in three areas of concern in Sengerema, Tanzania Image: Introduction:

This four day workshop, held in Sengerema, Mwanza, in the United Republic of Tanzania, had a special focus on strengthening the capacity of journalists and correspondents from four local radios to report on issues of local public concern.

This training aimed at establishing a network of correspondents and increase their knowledge of ICTS in various areas to support local broadcasting. The training took place from 19-23 August 2013 in Eenhana at Ohangwena Community Radio for a total of 6 participants (2 men and 4 women).

Date: 15/07 Correspondents' network and ICTs for programming, editorial work and diffusion in Mafeteng Image: Introduction:

A workshop carried out from 15 to 19 July 2013 capacitated 10 correspondents (4 women) from Mafeteng community radio station. Trainees were motivated to discuss the value and possible applications of ICTs in the context of radio broadcasting. The workshop provided Mafeteng community radio station correspondents the knowledge and skills to integrate ICTs into broadcasting in order to improve the quality of programming and encourage Mafeteng community participation.
