Journalists and reporters from all of the nine participating local radios in Tanzania, engaged in this three days’ workshop on covering humanitarian assistance and providing disaster relief information, at the Kahama FM radio station in Shinyanga from 8 to 11 of June 2014.

Workshop on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief information in Zambia

UNESCO conducted a workshop in Lusaka, from 25 to 26 February 2014, to enable 17 media professionals (10 women) to communicate effectively about interventions related to humanitarian aid and disaster reporting. The forum provided a unique opportunity for participants to exchange opinions about how to strengthen the communication between media and humanitarian organizations.

Humanitarian Information & Disaster Reduction Training in South Africa

The training on Humanitarian Information & Disaster Reduction, held at Manhattan Hotel in Pretoria on the 14th and 15th November 2013,  focused on  preparing community radio practitioners to report disaster risk reduction issues at the community level . Three participants from each of the five community radios participants in the SIDA funded project in South Africa (Bush FM, Valley FM, Radio Riverside, Radio Atlantis and Jozi FM) received an introduction from South African key actors in disaster risk reduction and practical tools when reporting and preventing future disasters.

Humanitarian Information & Disaster Reduction Training in Namibia

The training on Humanitarian Information & Disaster Reduction, held from 06-07 November 2013 at the UN House and Safari Court Hotel in Windhoek, focused on training participants how to communicate humanitarian and disaster risk management activities. The training was conducted by Polytechnic of Namibia media lecturer Wanja Njuguna, and followed a half day UN Interagency Roundtable Communication for Development.

Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief information together with UN in Kenya

UNESCO, together with UNISDR and UNIC, highlighted the role of the media in disaster risk reduction under this year’s theme - Living with Disability and Disasters. The event was organized in Meru, Kenya, and counted with more than 70 participants from across Kenya, including representatives from national and local governments, public and community media broadcasters, and civil society organizations working with people with disabilities.

Workshop on planning and financial management in DRC

From 24 to 25 October 2012, UNESCO organized a workshop at the Gombe community, to introduce accounting and financial planning practices in three radio stations.
