The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNOCT) was established in 2011 within the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) Office, to assist in meeting capacity-building needs of Member States, while strengthening United Nations' counter-terrorism expertise.

It is through the Counter-terrorism capacity building programme (CTCBP) that the Government of Canada assist, train and fund other states to enable them to prevent violent extremism in a manner consistent with international and human rights norms.
