World Press Freedom Committee

Objectives and Mission: 

Created in 1976 by by a group of independent journalists to defend press freedom, the WPFC includes 44 media organizations from all over the world.
To defend and promote press freedom through the world by 'constant monitoring' and raising the awareness of international bodies
To work for the unimpeded circulation of information within and across national borders
To provide training and practical assistance for new media particularly in developing countries and in Central and Eastern Europe

Publications on status of press freedoms around the world
Works in cooperation with many other press freedom organizations, international advisors, journalists and human rights experts
Administers the Fund Against Censorship with eight other international organizations
Training in Internet technology for journalists of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia
Workshops in Jamaica and Barbados, for journalists in the Caribbean
Co-funding of courses in Honduras and Nicaragua. Assistance for independent agencies in Cuba.
