Soroptimist International

Objectives and Mission: 

To preserve a high degree of ethics in work, the professions and other aspects of living. To defend human rights in general and the status of women in particular. To develop friendship among peoples. Priority issues: Social and economic development; education; environment; health; men’s and women’s rights; international co-operation.

General description: 

Soroptimist International joins forces with four other international women's organisations in Project-Five-0. This supports vocational training for women in developing countries and Soroptimist International's involvement is in projects in Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Madagascar, Philippines, Senegal, Thailand, Turkey and Western Samoa. Every four years, Soroptimist International adopts an International Quadrennial Project: 1999-2003: in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Limbs for Life project works in Afghanistan, Angola and Georgia to help the victims of landmines. Organization of the First International Marathon for Peace in Kigali, Rwanda, 15 May 2005. 2003-2007 : project "Women Survivors of War". Participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), Tunis, Tunisa, 16-18 November 2005. Participation in the World Summit for Sustainable Development, Johannesburg, South Africa, 2002.
