Mouvement International Atd Quart Monde

Objectives and Mission: 

ATD Fourth World is an international non-governemental organisation dedicated to overcoming extreme poverty. Its goal are: break the vicious circle of extreme poverty; to eliminate social exclusion; through practical action and scientific research, promote free and full participation of the most underprivileged individuals, groups and social strata in the socio-economic, cultural and political life of the society surrounding them; pursue reappraisal of policies and programmes on the basis of their achievements on behalf of those who remain at the bottom of the social scale and have been most and longest deprived; provide means of enabling Fourth World families to think and speak out for themselves.

General description: 

ATD organizes grassroots projects; representation and participation of people in poverty in national and international institutions; public debate projects; street libraries and educational outreach. It organizes also:
International Forum on the Eradication of Poverty;
International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (17 Oct);
training sessions.

ATD developed the 'Street Library Project'.
Contributed to creation of, and serves as permanent contributor to:
Fourth World Study Group within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe;
Fourth World Committee within the European Parliament.
