To promote the knowledge and the intensification of the distance education worldwide
To act as international coordination for open and distance education
To contribute to the development of new methodologies and technologies applied to education
To provide a forum where individuals, corporations, educational institutions, authorities and agencies involved in open and distance education can engage in professional enhancement and interaction
Organizes World Conference (every 2 years). Works closely with national and regional associations to encourage organization of national and regional meetings and ensure international participation where appropriate. ICDE Standing Conference of Presidents of Open and Distance Learning Institutions, convening annually, provides a global mechanism for cooperation, strategy development and capacity building and advocacy activities in open and distance learning for educational institutions.
