9th UNESCO Youth Forum

Youth Contribution in Monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals

Organized by the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP), India and UNESCO’s Education Sector.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cover a wide range of issues and youth monitoring of these goals is a critical part of ensuring their success. This workshop aims to equip youth with information, tools and methodologies to monitor progress in achieving the SDG on Education, specifically target 4.7 which looks at Education for Peace, Sustainability and Global Citizenship (EPSG).

The monitoring of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is to be aligned with that of the SDGs and thus offers a platform for participatory and innovative monitoring of the SDGs, including through the commitments received by organizations under GAP’s Youth Priority Action Area.

MGIEP provides an interactive online platform to mobilize youth across the world to deepen discussion on the SDGs, co-design participatory data collection methods with various stakeholder groups, and actively engage in related youth-led monitoring, which will provide a basis for a youth report on SDGs.

The outcome of the workshop is a youth-led monitoring framework on SDGs.
