At the 38th session of the General Conference, under the presidency of H.E. Stanley Mutumba Simataa, a vote took place in the Plenary on the 9 November on “the request for admission of the Republic of Kosovo to UNESCO”.
In accordance with UNESCO’s Constitution, a two-thirds majority of Member States present and voting is required for the decision to be carried forward.
Following a roll call vote, the General Conference decided not to take this proposal forward, by 92 votes in favor, 50 votes against, 29 states abstained. A majority of 95 was needed.
