On 23 August 2017, the Sudanese Ministry of Education, National Commission for Education Sciences and Culture, UNESCO and UNICEF organized the validation workshop for Education Policies Review in Grand Holiday Villa Hotel, Khartoum – resulting 1-year project “Paving the Road to Education 2030 in Sudan” led by UNESCO, Education Policy Sector. The workshop was funded by all organizers.
The participants discussed a report, which was delivered based on contributions of the Sudanese National Team with participation of international experts. The National Team was led by Dr. Mohammed Salim Mohammed, the Director General of Planning and Policies Department of the Ministry of Education, who is in the same time a national coordinator for the Sustainable Development Goal 4 in Sudan. The UNESCO’s team – Ms. Megumi Watanabe, Section of Education Policy in Education Sector, Paris, Ms. Yayoi Segi-Vltchek, UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States, Beirut, and Dr. Aiman Badri, UNESCO Khartoum office – assisted the National Team in managing the review process and formulating findings.
The discussion concentrated on three educational domains: Teachers, Literacy, and Sector-wide Policies and Planning. During technical sessions, the participants worked in three groups, providing their professional comments to the report of the National Team. Then, a common discussion about the findings of the workshop resulted in creating the list of comments, which will be integrated in the text of the report making it final.
The workshop was honored by the Federal Minister of Education, Ms. Asia Abdalla.
