Description:

UNESCO’s Ethics Teachers Training Course is hosted by Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia on 12-16 November 2019 is bringing together ethics educators from around the world for an intensive week of immersive and interactive learning.

Held for the first time in Georgia, this ETTC is a collaborative effort between UNESCO and the Ilia State University, designed to respond to the bioethics teaching needs globally and particularly within the host country. The participants are exploring effective ways to teach the universal ethical principles enshrined in UNESCO’s global standard-setting instruments, such as the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights and the Declaration on Ethical Principles in relation to Climate Change.

The Course features sessions delivered by the leading ethics education experts, focusing on two important aspects: what to teach (content), and how to teach (pedagogy). The Programme of the Course also includes teaching demonstrations by the participants, followed by immediate feedback from the experts and the fellow participants. By focusing on ethical principles that promote transparent and inclusive decision making processes, and also by exploring the ways to teach ethical principles related to climate change, this Course contributes to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Inclusive Governance).

The Ethic Teachers Training Course was developed by UNESCO and a group of experts from diverse cultural backgrounds to build the capacity of ethics educators on the methodology and pedagogy behind ethics teaching. UNESCO’s Bioethics Core Curriculum is a key ethics education tool that provides the structure of the ETTC.
