On 29-31 January 2018, the UNESCO Representative to Sudan, H.E. Mr. Pavel Kroupkine, visited Gedaref, Sudan. The visit took place in frameworks of the project for Strengthening Rural Radio Broadcasting in the East of Sudan, which was entrusted to UNESCO by Italy.

During his stay in Gedaref, the UNESCO Representative met the Speaker of the Gedaref’s Legislative Council, H.E. Mr. Abdallah Rahamtallah Mohamed, the Gedaref’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Information, H.E. Mr. Bashir Hamad, the Gedaref’s Governor, H.E. Eng. Mirghany Saleh Seid; participated in the Community Radio Day and enjoyed by the Governor’s dinner, which were honored by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Information, Minister of Social Welfare, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Education, Minister of Urbanism, Head of Police, and other distinguished Gedaref’s citizens.

The Gedaref’s authorities

  • Recognized the activities of the Project for Strengthening Rural Radio Broadcasting in the East of Sudan, highly appreciating the efforts of UNESCO and Italian Agency of Development Cooperation in contributing to the state

  • Informed about their decision to increase the rural broadcasting from 20 min per day to 120 min per day

  • Requested support of UNESCO for planning activities to develop local youth in frameworks of appointing of Gedaref as 2018 Youth Capital in Sudan

 

During his stay in Gedaref, the UNESCO Representative gave interview to the Gedaref’s Radio, and participated in 2 hours live TV programme explaining the Project and the Community Radio Day in Gedaref.
