The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) emphasizes the importance of respect for human rights, freedom of expression, and access to information as well as the open dialogue necessary to build lasting peace. In this regard, UNESCO rejects all forms of violence and condemns all violations of human rights, especially when they involve children, students or teachers.
UNESCO´s mandate is to advocate for the guarantee of the right to education and life-long learning of all, and for its delivery in contexts of respect, dignity and safety for all.
UNESCO aspires to help every school and educational institution be a safe, responsive learning environment in which all members of the educational system can contribute to the construction of spaces for positive dialogue that respects diversity, eliminate hate speech and builds a common sense of purpose.
UNESCO will continue its task of supporting governments to guarantee the right to education as a tool for the construction of sustainable and peaceful societies and a future of democracy and equity in the country, the region and the world.
As UNESCO, we offer our experience, expertise, methodologies and pedagogical materials to teachers, directors, and caregivers for their work in the classroom to build a culture of peace and peaceful conflict resolution.
