Following seven years of successful cooperation, on 27 november 2017 UNESCO and Netexplo signed a partnership agreement to sustain their relationship over time. The Agreement was signed by Frank La Rue, UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, and Thierry Happe, President and co-founder of the Netexplo Observatory, at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris.

Created in 2007, Netexplo is a global observatory on digital innovation and talent. Its role is to identify, grasp and share the issues and skills needed in digital society, and promote global talent among political, business, academic and media executives. Netexplo’s goal is to foster a fairer, more open world that creates more value and wellbeing for women and men. This goal is fully in line with UNESCO’s mission to promote and support international cooperation in education, science, culture and communication and information. Understanding the issues of the digital transformation in the building of knowledge societies including in the economy is a high priority for UNESCO pursuing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Since 2010, Netexplo and UNESCO have built an informal partnership based on knowledge sharing, particularly through the organisation of an annual event, the Netexplo Forum. Every year, the UNESCO Netexplo Forum gathers 1,500 executives to discover the outstanding innovations and emerging practices that are likely to transform society in depth.

In 2013, Netexplo and UNESCO also created the UNESCO/ Netexplo Advisory Board (UNAB), a network of lecturers in digital and business fields from the world’s leading universities, with the aim of spotting and analysing significant innovations worldwide.

With the acceleration of new technologies, from smartphones, big data and social media to the internet of things, artificial intelligence and robotics, this partnership between Netexplo and UNESCO is more important than ever, for every individual, organisation and society to seize all the opportunities of the digital world.
