In November the Khartoum office in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Sudan organized three five-day courses for trainers on inclusive education for students with disabilities. These activities are an output of the UNESCO extrabudgetary project “Promoting Access to Education and Health for Children with Disabilities”, funded by the UN, and managed by the Khartoum Office with support from the Beirut office of UNESCO. Other partners involved in the project: the Ministry of Education of Sudan, the Sudanese National Council for People with Disabilities, UNICEF, and WHO.
The three courses were held during the month of November and targeted a total of 100 teachers and trainers representing the Sudanese States of Khartoum, Kassala, and South Darfur. Two of these sessions – for the States of Khartoum and Kassala – took place on the premises of the Ministry of Education: the first from the 1st to the 5th of November, and the second from the 15th to the 19th of November 2015. The third one, organized for teachers from South Darfur, happened in the city of Nyala, South Darfur, from the 22nd to the 26th of November 2015. The mission of the training was: “Towards a special educational renaissance for students with disabilities”. The objective – capacity building in the field of inclusive education, based on the earlier delivered manual on inclusive education for students with disabilities.
The training was conducted by two experts in the field of inclusive education and contained several series of brainstorming sessions, interactive and illustrative talks, group discussions, and role-play exercises in order to ensure the full participation and involvement of the participants. These effective participatory learning training methods will enable trainees to put into action the set of skills learnt through the training and contribute to their functions and their further development.
The project runs under the auspices of Her Exellency Dr. Souad Abdelrazig Mohamed Saeed, the Minister of Education of Sudan. The training was supervised by Dr. El Sir Sheikh Ahmed Mukhtar, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education.
