05 July 2016
Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan invites professional and nonprofessional photographers in Kazakhstan to participate in this photo contest. The deadline is 31 July 2016.
At the UN Summit (25-27 September 2015), the Member States of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2016-2030 at its core that aim to end extreme poverty, promote equity and opportunity for all, and protect the planet, in close partnership among the nations. Building on the success of MDGs, SDGs are universal goals accepted by all countries and applicable to all – both rich and poor, taking into account different national realities, capacities and levels of development and respecting national policies and priorities.
The theme of the photo contest focuses on the relationship and applicability of Sustainable Development Goals to Kazakhstan. Participants are invited to submit one or more high-quality photographs reflecting the topicality of any of the 17 SDGs for Kazakhstan, together with their caption and brief description. A caption and brief description is defined as the title of the photograph and some background information about the photo.
The contest is open to any professional or non-professional photographer with the exception of employees of the United Nations. Photographs that have already been published elsewhere or are the property of a third party are not eligible unless UN will have the full rights to use the images as specified below.
Participation in the contest is free.
Winners will be awarded the prizes along three categories (1st, 2nd and 3rd places)
Contestants must own all right to the photographs submitted, and releases for the photographs submitted are the contestant's responsibility.
Please note that any submitted material will not be returned to the contestants. Therefore please ensure you keep a copy of your photograph(s). UN reserves the right to reprint, use, name, distribute and publish with appropriate credit to the photographer, any entry at UN's discretion (including non-winning entries), without any compensation to the photographer in question. However, copyright and intellectual property in the entry will remain with the photographer. UN also reserves the right to grant permission to third parties to reprint, use, name, distribute and publish the photographs for non-commercial purposes in order to raise awareness about SDGs (all the foregoing always with appropriate credit to the photographer).
Digital photographic entries should be sized so that their longest side is at least 1600 pixels (vertical and horizontal). Each image must be submitted as a separate file in JPEG format. Each file should be named with an ID name on it.
Any entry must be received no later than 31 July 2016. Deatils on submission avalable on the following page.
