31 October 2017

A high-level side event on Education “Strengthening accountability in the implementation of SDG4-Education 2030” will take place on 1 November 2017 during the 39th session of the General Conference in Paris.

Two ministerial level panel debates will explore the different processes, mechanisms or instruments established by governments to promote accountability and transparency, including through public monitoring and reporting. They will also examine how greater accountability can improve financing for education, and how to move the Education 2030 agenda forward.

Presentation on Accountability in education by Manos Antoninis, Director of the Global Education Monitoring Report.

Based on a succinct presentation of the 2017/18 Global Education Monitoring Report devoted to the theme of accountability in education, this introductory presentation will serve to frame the two panel discussions. These panel discussions will be followed by open floor allowing for the interventions of Ministers and representatives of other constituencies.

The event will review countries’ experiences in strengthening governance and accountability systems. It will explore the different ways governments are promoting accountability and transparency, including through more rigorous public monitoring and reporting. It will also explore how accountability can improve financing for education.
