UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, welcomed the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, and four of his ministers at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The exchange focused on the cooperation between the Republic of Angola and UNESCO, specifically in the fields concerning the promotion of a culture of peace, to which the country is strongly committed, and the appreciation of Angolan cultural heritage and linguistic diversity.
The Director-General has assured UNESCO’s support in strengthening Angola's human capital through education, and in the implementation of a doctoral training project in science, technology and innovation, with the financial support of the African Development Bank.
This visit by President João Lourenço is the first visit of an Angolan Head of State to UNESCO. It illustrates Angola's commitment to strengthening relations with the Organization.
