Irina Bokova: “Girls and women are changing societies across the world – we must stand up to help them”
On 9 September, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, held an information meeting with Member States on “Priority Gender Equality Action Plan for 2014-2021” (GEAP II). The objective of this meeting is to present and discuss the mainlines of UNESCO new plan of action for the Global Priority Gender Equality. This Action Plan will then be presented to the next session of the Executive Board.
“This new Action Plan is presented as a guide for all of UNESCO’s work, which will allow better readability, easier comparison between sectors and better monitoring,” said the Director-General.
“I believe this Action Plan will sharpen our focus on what we do best – to build the capacities of individuals, especially girls and women, to strengthen the fight against gender stereotypes,” said the Director-General.
