As the global community sets course for a new education agenda - Education 2030 -, UNESCO and partners lead with a call for a new vision, dialogue and a platform for research on the future of learning.
The Education 2030 agenda aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. It encapsulates Goal 4 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The complexity of today’s world requires a comprehensive approach to education policy embedded in a better understanding of the way in which knowledge is created, controlled, disseminated, acquired, validated and used. It also requires further development of the ethical principles that govern education and knowledge as common goods.
The publication Rethinking Education: Towards a global common good? (2015) offers food for thought in a time of change, complexity and paradox. In the spirit of the landmark publication Learning: The treasure within (UNESCO 1996), the publication reconsiders the purpose of education and the principles that govern education and knowledge as common goods.
