From 13 to 17 March, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, is on her first official visit to Mexico. During this visit, she is expected to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Antonio Meade Kuribreña and the Minister of Public Education, Mr Emilio Chuayfett Chemor.
During her visit, the Director-General will meet Government officials of the Public Education Secretariat and address the topic “Priority Education: quality education for all as an engine for economic and social development”.
The Director-General is also expected to meet with the President of the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA), Mr Rafael Tovar y de Teresa. Together with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Helen Clark, the Director-General will meet the UN Resident Coordinator, Mrs Marcia de Castro, as well as the UN Country Team.
Irina Bokova will also meet with the National Committee of the Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST) and the National Commission of Bioethics.
The Director-General will visit the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM), where she will meet the Rector, Mr José Narro Robles.
During her visit, the Director-General participate in the opening session of the VII meeting of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, in her capacity as co-Vice Chair of the Broadband Commission, together with the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Dr Hamadoun Touré. The event will take place with the participation of the President of Rwanda, Mr Paul Kagame and the President of the Carlos Slim Foundation, Mr Carlos Slim, as Co-Chairs of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development.
