On 6 June, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, met with the members of the Council of Business women in Bulgaria. The discussion focused on topics related to the common objectives of UNESCO and the Council, namely improving the education of women, promoting gender equality, and supporting young people.
During the meeting the Director-General has accepted to give her patronage to the International Conference on Women, which the Council of Business Women in Bulgaria plans to organize in Sofia early next year.
Women's organizations from around the world will be invited to the forum to deliberate on how to overcome public prejudice against the role of women in management and business and to review successful practices of women entrepreneurs.
Addressing the Council of Women, the Director-General stressed that in all its activities UNESCO aims to promote the education of young women, greater representation of women in science, education and media.
The Director-General received a certificate of honorary membership of the Council in recognition of her activities and achievements.
