UNESCO New Delhi, UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University are organizing a virtual conference on 11 March 2021, to discuss the impact of COVID 19 on International Higher Education.
The conference will feature a panel discussion where panellists will walk us through the various initiatives being led by the Government, educators, and organizations, to recommit and protect higher education in these testing times. It will aim to identify critical areas/strategies that need to be adopted by higher education organizations to overcome the challenges of the situation.
In order for a larger proportion of local students to benefit from the globalization of higher education without necessarily going abroad, the internationalization of programmes and the curriculum at home is critical for a holistic and inclusive approach for all learners.
The outbreak of the global pandemic, Covid-19, has impacted higher education across the globe. It has had a significant impact on higher education cooperation between India and Africa. Despite this, educational organizations have been quick to adopt innovative ways to continue developing the standards. However, the challenges are many, and the way forward needs to be thought through for its long-term effectiveness. Sharing of ideas from different perspectives is critical to evolve these strategies and action agenda.
In light of the COVID 19 pandemic, UNESCO had earlier launched the Global Education Coalition in March 2020 to ensure that learning never stops even during the lockdown period. Furthermore, in November 2019, the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education was adopted by the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference, making it the first United Nations treaty on higher education with a global scope.
