Call for Expressions of Interest: Implementation of a needs assessment survey on the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in Albania (Deadline: 30 May 2014)

The UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Venice (Italy), is seeking expressions of interest for the preparation of a needs assessment survey on the implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Albania, in line with UNESCO’s global capacity-building strategy.

The activity, undertaken in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Albania, will aim to produce a detailed outline of the legal and institutional framework currently in place for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. Based on the results of this initial study, it will provide capacity-building recommendations and develop of an action plan for their implementation.

Prospective consultants/experts (individuals, teams or organisations) should have a university degree (preferably Master’s) in Social Sciences and a strong background in qualitative research, as well as an excellent grasp of oral and written English. Selected applicants will be remunerated in accordance with UNESCO rules and regulations. The survey will be conducted between mid-June and the beginning of July 2014 and should be completed no later than 13 July 2014.

Expressions of interest should include a curriculum vitae and an outline of the applicants’ technical and financial proposal. The deadline for submissions is 30 May 2014.

UNESCO’s global capacity-building strategy for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage was developed in 2009 by the Secretariat to ensure that the high rate of ratification of the 2003 Convention was met with effective practical measures for implementation. It seeks to involve a diverse range of stakeholders in training and capacity-building activities in order to strengthen human and institutional capacities for safeguarding at a national and local level.
