UNESCO and the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) have embarked upon a new partnership to promote the safety of journalists and end impunity, as well as to reinforce the rule of law, through an agreement presented during an online event on 8 December 2020. As part of the new partnership, the two organizations launched a new set of guidelines for Prosecutors on Cases of Crimes against Journalists on 10 December in The Hague (Netherlands), during the World Press Freedom Day Conference, held from 9 to 10 December 2020.

In the runup to the World Press Freedom Conference 2020, UNESCO has just released a new study in the World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development series. The report discusses the most urgent threats to editorial independence and journalistic integrity around the world.

World Press Freedom Conference’s list of speakers features many prominent international journalists, media professionals and human rights experts. Amal Clooney is one of the speakers who will be taking part in the digital event, broadcast from the World Forum in The Hague, on 9 and 10 December.

Renowned journalist Christiane Amanpour is one of the prominent figures who will be speaking in the digital World Press Freedom Conference which will be transmitted from The Hague on 9 and 10 December. Ms Amanpour, a British-Iranian correspondent, has been an established name in international journalism for decades. As a CNN host and news anchor, she has reached audiences of tens of millions with her reporting from crisis and war zones and interviews with world leaders. She has been awarded multiple prizes and distinctions for her work. At World Press Freedom Conference (WPFC) 2020 Ms Amanpour will be speaking about the importance of press freedom, and answer prior questions from participants in the conference, hosted by UNESCO and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
