Between the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, religious missions of Dominicans, Salesians, Carmelites and Josephites were mobilized to the Ecuadorian Amazon in a "peacekeeping and evangelizing" effort of the quichua groups, napo-quichua, canelo-quichua, shuar, achuar and cofán. The Gaze of Other is a collection of 42 original photographic negatives corresponding to the Salesian missions between 1890 and 1930.
