The 'Tadkirat al gāfilin ‘anqubhihtilāf al- mu’minin/ Reminder to those who do not pay attention to the harms caused by the divergence between believers' is a poem written by Cheikh Al-HagUmarTall, founder of the Toucouleur Empire, born in Halwar near Podor in the Fouta Toro (Senegal) circa 1797. The poem in acrostic based on letters of two verses of Sura 49 of the Qur’an was written while he was returning from Mecca and intended to reconcile the Emir of Sokoto with the Emir of Borno on the issue of legality of Jihad (holy war) against certain Muslims because of their failure to observe some precepts of Islam. The book consists of three parts: an introduction, a development and a conclusion.
