Reward work, not wealth

To end the inequality crisis, we must build an economy for ordinary working people, not the rich and powerful.

The Oxfam briefing paper looks into work and its relation to wealth.

Key messages:

  • if/how the global economy is conducive to the accumulation of wealth;
  • how this reflects on workers;
  • the exploitation of gender inequalities for/in the current set-up.

Particular focus is placed on the gender divide issue. Women consistently earn less than men and are usually in the lowest paid and least secure forms of work. At current rates of change, the gender gap in pay and employment opportunities between women and men will take 217 years to close.
