Toolbox 3.2: Synergize Cross-Programme Projects/ Activities, Setting up an ICT in Education Agency

Synergize projects and activities

Review the activities of all programme areas. Find out if there are duplicating activities. See if it is possible to combine some activities that would complement each other. Doing this would simplify implementation and reduce the cost.

The next level of concern is to consider projects or activities that cut across all programme areas. These projects or activities may or may not have been included in the programme areas. Two examples are provided below:

  • Improving the Education Management Information System or EMIS (see thematic paper on ICT in EMIS); and
  • Development of a Platform for Storing and Accessing Open Educational Resources or OER (see thematic paper on Digital Textbooks and Resources).

The last thing to consider is whether or not to create an ICT in Education Agency or an ICT in Education Unit within the organization. An agency or unit focused on ICT in Education can benefit the implementation of the masterplan. Use the resources below in your discussion:

  • Building and sustaining national educational technology agencies: Lessons, models and case studies
  • The Edtech Edifice Complex
