Animals Instead of Garbage !

For coastal areas, water quality, safety and access for all: the Blue Flag Programme, created by the Foundation for Environmental Education, represents a serious and profound commitment to both people and the environment. Central to the aims of the Blue Flag Programme is connecting the public with their surroundings and encouraging them to learn more about their environment. As such, environmental education activities must be offered and promoted in addition to a permanent display of information relevant to the site in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental phenomena.

In Brazil, the Instituto Ambientes em Rede organizes meetings between children three to ten years old and the Blue Flag team on the beach, where they perform an interactive drama. The script is based on the ecosystems of the region (Atlantic forest, marshes, swampland, beach, rocky shore and sea).

In this play, the trash "appears" on the beach because of human action and it is scattered around the stage. The lecturer explains the problems caused by irresponsible behavior and garbage in nature. Children are invited to interactively remove the pictures of the trash stuck on the board and replace them by pictures of animals. The animals should be placed in the right location – in the environment where they would live in reality.

Pictures of general waste and animals from the local ecosystem are to be stuck on the panel and a camera is used to then record and post the activity on the information board and/or in environmental education centers.

The activity can also take place indoors. Advance registration of the participants will help you to organize the school groups by number of children.
