Mr Vladimir Spivakov, a prominent Russian violinist and conductor, was designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in November 2006, in light of his commitment to artistic creativity and the living arts.
In May 1994, he created the Vladimir Spivakov International Charitable Foundation with the aim of helping orphaned and sick children and creating favorable conditions for the development of young talents.
His foundation was awarded in 2000 with an honorary medal from UNESCO for its contribution to the development of the musical culture of the 3rd millennium.
Through his foundation, he launched in 2004 the International Festival Moscow Meets Friends, reuniting every year young talents from around the world to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls of Moscow.
