World-renowned Nigerian fashion designer Sidahmed Seidnaly (a.k.a. Alphadi) was appointed UNESCO Artist for Peace in January 2016 and became UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for African innovation and creation in 2022.
He was appointed for his commitment to culture and development in the service of peace, respect and human dignity, and his contribution to the promotion of tolerance.
Alphadi is President of the International Festival of African Fashion launched in 1998, under the auspices of UNESCO. Since then, the Festival has since become a place of exchange and dialogue between cultures from all over the world. In 2012, he created the Alphadi Foundation with the aim of improving the living conditions of women and children in the Sahara.
