The renowned Ukrainian conductor Herman Makarenko, was designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in November 2016, in light of his commitment to promoting music as a vehicle for dialogue and mutual understanding among people, and his contribution towards peace and tolerance, notably through the performances of the Kyiv-Classic Orchestra. 
In his capacity as Artistic Director of the Kyiv-Classic Orchestra, he launched the project “Concert Premier”, aiming to present to the Ukrainian audience classical and traditional music of the world. 
In his capacity as a UNESCO Artist for Peace, Mr Makarenko supports UNESCO’s work in line with the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022).
