The French sculptor Gérard Voisin was appointed UNESCO Artist for Peace in July 2005, in light of his artistic work in the service of dialogue, cultural diversity and the memory of the struggle against slavery.
Actively engaged in his native city of Nantes in favor of the memory of slavery, Gérard Voisin supported UNESCO project entitled "The Slave Route project: Resistance, Liberty, Heritage".
His exhibitions at UNESCO Headquarters and in the rest of the world have contributed to the promotion of the rapprochement of cultures, the acceptance of difference and the institutionalization of memory and the culture of peace.
