UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for education and social inclusion
Chantal Biya, the First Lady of Cameroon, was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion in November 2008, in light of her commitment to women, vulnerable people and minorities.
She is committed to fight social exclusion, notably through HIV/AIDS education and prevention. She is at the origin of the creation in 1994 of the Chantal Biya Foundation helping in the prevention and the relief of the sufferings in Cameroon.
In 2002, she initiated the creation of the pan-African association Synergies africaines contre le sida et les souffrances. In February 2006, she received the UNESCO Marie Curie Silver Medal for her commitment and dedication in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
