  • On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, UNESCO has launched an information campaign on feminicide, specifically related to intimate-partner and family-related homicides of women. This campaign was displayed on the screens at UNESCO’s Headquarters and on social networks as of 25 November and will be on for the 16 Days of Activism until 10 December (International Human Rights Day). Last Monday, H.E. Mr José Antonio Rodriguez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to UNESCO, performed a song he specifically wrote for this day, “Ella solo dijo no” which talks about gender disparities and says no to discrimination. Delegates, representatives of Members States and UNESCO staff were all invited to write down in their own language their commitment to ending gender-based violence, together with the Director-General. The initiative was introduced by the President of the 40th Session of the General Conference, H.E. Mr Altay Cengizer, and Director for Gender Equality, Ms Saniye Gülser Corat.
