Global Education Meeting 2018 (Belgium, Brussels)
The Global Education Meeting (GEM 2018), convened by UNESCO and kindly hosted by Belgium, was held in Brussels from 3 to 5 December 2018.
The 2018 Global Education Meeting (GEM) took stock of progress and challenges to date in the implementation of global Education 2030 targets and commitments, and provided strategic input on education in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for the 2019 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).
The three-day meeting comprised a Senior Officials’ Meeting (1.5 days) followed by a Leaders’ Meeting for Ministers, Vice-Ministers and heads of delegations (1.5 days).
GEM 2018 gathered some 300 participants including 10 countries from each Electoral Group, including the 3 countries representing each region on the SDG-Education 2030 Steering Committee, as well as SDG4-Education 2030 convening agencies and affiliated organizations, multilateral and bilateral agencies, regional organizations, the teaching profession, civil society organizations, the private sector, foundations, as well as youth and student representatives among others.
