Arts Education Week (AEW) is an international celebration promoted by UNESCO that seeks to "raise awareness of the importance of arts education within the international community; and to promote cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and social cohesion".

In Chile, it is organized by the Executive Board composed of UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Ministry of Education (through the Under-Secretariat of Early Childhood Education), the University of Chile and Balmaceda Arte Joven, and is aimed at students from the country's schools and high schools, a stage in education where the development of the arts and creativity plays a fundamental role in generating freer and more aware subjects in their environment.

Chile joins in 2013 under the slogan "More art in my school". After the good reception of this first version in the country, in 2014 the SEA entered the school calendar, the year in which 47 educational establishments were convened. To date, there are a total of 3901 records, which shows a sustained growth of the SEA and highlights the importance of art in the construction of a comprehensive and quality educational model.

Although the activities of the SEA 2020 have been postponed, the initial date (week of May 11) is an opportunity to highlight the importance of arts education in the context of the pandemic and to revalue the possibilities that the arts give us to reflect on and make visible the human and emotional dimension in the educational process. It is in this context that SEA invites teachers and educators, children and young people and their families, to join the project Transforming the Present, Dreaming the Future, which seeks to build a collective story based on the experiences and narratives of children and young people in times of confinement.
