Between April 21 and 30 the National Institute and the Valparaiso Municipal Theater will present public performances, which will include Jazz concerts and masterclasses. The week will count, amongst many others artists, the participation of the Grammy-winning pianist and UNESCO Artist for Peace, Danilo Pérez UNESCO believes in the power of Jazz as a force for peace, dialogue and mutual understanding and this is why in November 2011, the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed 30 April as "International Jazz Day". This Day is intended to raise awareness of the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for empathy, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people. Many governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and private citizens currently engaged in the promotion of jazz music will embrace the opportunity to foster greater appreciation not only for the music but also for the contribution it can make to building more inclusive societies.

On 2021 and 2022 different youth consultations took place in the Latin American Region to collect relevant information about youth challenges, opportunities and recommendations for advancing the implementation of SDG 4, specifically target 4.7 on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education. Youth has a key role to play according the strategic priority areas defined by the ESDfor2030 framework and roadmap: towards the achievement of the SDGs, which is the latest UNESCO’s contribution for the UN Decade of action. The results of these consultation processes, facilitated by UNESCO’s Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean and The Millennials Movement, were aimed to support the elaboration of key guidelines for harnessing the transformative potential of education: one peer-to peer guide for climate action (to be published mid-2022) and a set of guidelines for teachers and educators on global citizenship education in the digital era.

The UNESCO publication AI and education: Guidance for policymakers is launched in Latin America and the Caribbean to raise awareness and promote a regional debate among relevant stakeholders on the key role of education in the development of skills for work and life in the era of AI.

The Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago), through its LLECE Laboratory, invites you to the launch of the results of the writing assessment of its Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE 2019), an effort of UNESCO together with 16 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 10 am Chile time (-3 GMT, see below times for other countries). The data will provide evidence on how third and sixth grade students write and will help guide policies to improve education and strengthen the quality and equity of education.

The UNESCO Representation in Chile (UNESCO Santiago) will announce the results of the National Forum on Arts Education: Voices and proposals for the future of arts education in Chile through the Arts Education Week (SEA) Facebook page. The contents of the analysis document "Voices of Arts Education in Chile: analysis of a participatory process" and the results of the national reflection process on arts education in Chile will be presented. At the same time, the document "Proposals for arts education in Chile: guidelines for public policy" will be launched. The event will feature comments by Elisa Araya, rector of the Metropolitan University of Education Sciences (UMCE); Arnoldo Weber, manager of the Artistas del Acero Cultural Corporation; and Andrea Gutiérrez, director of the Santiago Cultural Foundation. The National Arts Education Forum was implemented during the second semester of 2021 by UNESCO, in conjunction with the institutions organising Arts Education Week, and convened 120 artistic, cultural and educational agents from all over the country to participate in a process of national reflection on the situation of arts education with the aim of establishing guidelines for its future in the formal and non-formal spheres. Through its Laboratory for Evaluation of the Quality of Education (LLECE), the Regional Office for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) announces the release of the results of the ERCE 2019 focus on socioemotional abilities.
