Webinar series begins: Global Citizenship Education, Opportunities and Challenges for Latin America and the Caribbean

"Youth have a lot to say about the difficult issues of the past."

María Francisca Elgueta, a Chilean history teacher, is the winner of the Global Teacher Prize Chile 2022. This teacher from Colegio Betania de La Granja, in Santiago, won the Chilean version of this international recognition due to her work in this educational center specializing in school reinsertion. Her school belongs to the Hogar de Cristo's Súmate Foundation, a charitable institution that is part of the works of the Society of Jesus in Chile and works to reintegrate children who have dropped out of the school system in the southern area of the Chilean capital.

Equity, inclusion and quality of education are only possible when education policy incorporates all stakeholders, whether state or non-state

UNESCO's Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) invites policymakers to work with both state and non-state actors to address disparities in educational processes, student outcomes and teacher working conditions. It advocates five steps to ensure quality education for all.

UNESCO and Huawei team up to strengthen teachers' digital skills in Latin America and the Caribbean

This initiative will include teachers from preschool through high school, to maximize the effective use of new technologies for learning. The project which started in Chile is part of a regional initiative and will be replicated in other Latin American countries.

Colombia, Ecuador and Peru have made significant efforts to include people in situations of mobility in their education systems, says new UNESCO report

Among the data collected, educational access is one of the areas where most progress has been made in terms of the inclusion of the mobile population. The countries studied have worked on eliminating, reducing and/or adjusting administrative requirements for enrollment.

Multilingualism Week addresses linguistic diversity as an agent of change in democratic societies

Two seminars were held between the 15th and 18th of November 2022 on the subject of Multilinguism. The Seminar "Multilingualism: a look into the future from public policy perspectives" on the 15 November and the International Seminar "Intercultural Policies for Multilingualism in Comparative Perspective" on the 17 and 18th of November. Both activities were free of charge, with prior registration.
