Inclusive education teacher trainings

Inclusive education, as the core of SDG4 has been a significant component of UNESCO’s work throughout the years. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, UNESCO promotes inclusive education through capacity building interventions and teacher trainings. Strengthening teachers’ capacity in inclusive, child-friendly education is the key to successful inclusion of all students regardless of their ability, disability, gender, and socioeconomic background and therefore creating a safe and child-friendly learning environment. Accordingly, UNESCO mainstreams inclusive education in schools at leadership level, as well as in daily class practices.UNESCO continues to provide capacity building in coordination with the Ministry of Education towards mainstreaming inclusion in all schools in Palestine. In order to enhance teachers’ capacity in inclusive education, UNESCO has conducted trainings in 170 schools in the West Bank and Gaza for school principals, teachers and supervisors on innovative, child-centered teaching methods and pedagogy, benefiting more than 29,000 children. UNESCO, together with the MoE, UNRWA, and Norwegian Refugee Council, developed an Inclusive and Child-friendly Education Manual, which was adopted and broadly used for teacher trainings in Palestine.
