Based on the study on Open Science in Latin America, prepared by Paola Andrea Ramírez and Daniel Samoilovich for the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean (Montevideo Office, Uruguay), and in the light of the policies and strategies contained in the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, the Colloquium proposes to discuss what Latin American governments can do to strengthen the region's participation in international research, taking advantage of the open science movement.

On the occasion of the launch of the call for proposals of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) on 16 March 2022, the UNESCO Office in Montevideo, the Secretariat of the 2005 Convention, the National Secretariat of Culture and the Paraguayan National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO are organizing a training workshop on the IFCD for potential beneficiaries of the IFCD in Paraguay. The workshop aims to strengthen participants' capacities in planning and writing proposals for the fund and in identifying key issues for the submission of successful projects. 

Increased soil erosion, decreased infiltration and groundwater recharge, increased flooding, reduced water availability for communities, decreased biodiversity and productivity create a growing need for capacities to promote the management and recovery of degraded and overused ecosystems.  This course, organised by the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme of UNESCO in Latin America and the Caribbean, through its working group "Hydrology of Forest Systems", together with the UNESCO Chair in Surface Hydrology of the University of Talca, Chile, seeks to strengthen the professional capacities of specialists working in the public and private sectors of the region in planning and technical action in the territory, in order to restore situations of degradation of water, land and ecosystems in general.

In the framework of the preparatory activities for MONDIACULT 2022 - the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development that will take place in Mexico in September, the UNESCO Office in Montevideo is organizing a series of ResiliArt debates with the aim of gathering data and results to inform and prepare for the World Conference. This will allow that high-level discussions take into account the needs, gaps and opportunities raised by artists and cultural professionals on the ground. The discussion to be held on 30 March will focus on mechanisms to guarantee the protection and security of artists and professionals in the cultural and creative sector in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.  

As part of the preparatory activities for MONDIACULT 2022 - the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development that will take place in Mexico in September, the UNESCO Office in Montevideo is organizing a series of ResiliArt debates with the aim of gathering data and results to inform and prepare for the World Conference. This will allow the high-level discussions to take into account the needs, gaps and opportunities raised by civil society and cultural actors on the ground. The discussion taking place on 29 March will focus on arts education and culture for social transformation in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
