Celebrating World Teachers' Day in Nepal

In celebration of World Teachers Day 2020, UNESCO Kathmandu is organizing a webinar in collaboration with the Forum for Women’s Teachers.

Workshop on Media policies, radio and diversity

The workshop will hold discussions with duty bearers to review the impact of existing and/or proposed laws and regulations affecting broadcasters and advocate for the independent radio sector. Objectives of the workshop are: • To review the impact of any existing and/or proposed law and regulations at province levels that can impact broadcasters and to advocate the promotion of independent and inclusive media at local levels. • To sensitize the duty bearers about the impact of existing policies and proposed media law upon the community radio sector • To discuss all-around diversity in local radio broadcasting and the pre-conditions for achieving the desired levels of diversity in terms of content, people's participation, resource allocation (by radios and local level supporters) Meantime, workshops will be held in the other six provincial headquarters of Nepal parallelly.

Workshop on Media in Elections

In view of present situation of media in the country, a series of trainings on producing gender-balanced contents, to young journalists working with print, online and broadcasting media will be conducted. The training workshop aims to give an exposure to young journalists on the dynamics of election reporting based on UNDP’s Training Module as well as UNESCO’s standards of Gender Sensitive Indicators for Media. The journalists and the women parliamentarians will have an opportunity to interact with each other on the problems and limitations of both the parties affecting the gender-balanced media coverage. The journalists and the parliamentarians will come out with a joint commitment through a joint exercise forming the working groups to recognize the needs of both sides. The training will be conducted in four different places: Kathmandu (18-20 October), Janakpur (21-23 October), Surkhet (4-6 November) and Butwal (8-10 November).

Launch of global digital library Asia

The Asia regional launch of the Global Digital Library is being held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The event will highlight the importance of the platform for stakeholders involved in reading materials development, primary education programming, or community reading programmes in the Asia region. Ministries of education, donor community and NGOs working on supplementary reading materials, school managers, teachers, international and national non-governmental organizations, local publishers, digital distributors and content providers in Asia are encouraged to attend.
